About

IRL, I'm a software developer. I was not trained to be a software developer; I was trained to be a mechanical engineer. Also, I was not trained to be a painter. My mechanical engineering experience and training gave me some practice with drafting and line placement, but has been no help with color theory or composition. So I keep practicing.

Because I am fairly slow, I enjoy painting things that I know I'm going to have to stare at for long periods of time. I'm easily bored, so I tend toward things that make me laugh or subjects that make me smile. I have given up on paintings of things that I didn't want to keep staring at.

I paint with soft-body acrylics on stretched linen. I like that it dries quickly and lets me layer without waiting for days. I trade a lot in blending ability for speed and crisp lines.

I generally paint in my home studio, which is also the room where I hack at software. But I also try to take my travel easel along when I'm not flying too far away.
